Object Order (Direct & Indirect Objects) Definitions with examples.

Object Order:




Direct & Indirect Object:

There are two types of Objects:

1)    Direct

2)    Indirect

Direct Objects:

 The objects which are used for the things are called “Direct Objects”.

OR

The action of the verb is received by the Direct Object .

For Example:

·        I teach computer.

Computer is the direct object in the said sentence.

·        He rides a bike.

Bike is the direct object in the said  sentence.

·        She makes coffee.

Coffee is the direct object in the said sentence.


Indirect Object:

The objects which are used for the people are called “Indirect Objects”.

OR

It is told by "The Indirect object" to whom or for whom the action is done.

For Example:

·        I am teaching my friend.

My Friend is the indirect object in the said sentence.

·        She is supporting her relatives.

Her Relatives is the indirect object in the said sentence.

·        He has attended the meeting with his colleagues.

His Colleagues is the indirect object in the said sentence.


Usage of “Direct” & “Indirect” Objects:


If there are two objects in a sentence the first object is “direct” object & the second one is “Indirect”. We use “to” or “for” between two objects.


For Example:

·        I am teaching computer to my friend.

Computer is the direct object & My Friend is the indirect object in the above given sentence. Because direct object is used first and the indirect object is used after that we “to” between these two objects,

 

If there are two objects in a sentence the first object is “Indirect” object & the second one is “direct”. We don’t use “to” or “for” between two objects.

For Example:

·        I am teaching my friend computer.

Computer is the direct object & My friend is the indirect object in the above given sentence. Because indirect object is used first and the direct object is after that “to” is not used.
