How to make Plural



Most of the nouns are made Plural by putting an "S" at the end of a Noun. But there are many rules regarding Pluralization depending on what a letter ends in. For making Plural we always need a noun this noun should be common & count. 

Rule # 1:  To make a noun plural add "S" to the end of a noun 

Examples:   Book = Books
                    Chair = Chairs
                    Fan = Fans

Rule # 2:  If the Singular Noun ends in "S", "SS", "SH", "CH","X" OR "Z" add "ES" to the end of a noun to make it Plural. 

Examples:   Walrus = Walruses
                    Truss = Trusses
                    Bush = Bushes
                    Lunch = Lunches
                    Tax = Taxes
                    Buzz = Buzzes

Rule # 3:  If a singular noun ends in "Y" & there is a consonant before "Y" change the ending "Y" into "IES" to make it plural. 

Examples:   City = Cities
                    Country = Countries
                    Bakery = Bakeries


Rule # 4:  If a singular noun ends in "Y" & there is a vowel before "Y" just add "S" into the noun.

Examples:   Toy = Toys
                    Boy = Boys
                    Key = Keys

Rule # 5:  There are 12 Nouns end in "F" OR "FE" are changed into "VES" to make them Plural 

Examples:   Life = lives
                    Wife = Wives
                    Knife = Knives
                    Thief = Thieves
                     Leaf = Leaves
                     Loaf = Loaves
                     Self = Selves
                     Shelf = Shelves
                     Half = Halves
                     Calf = Calves
                     Sheaf = Sheaves
                     Wolf = Wolves 

Rule # 6:  Except above 12 Nouns if a noun ends in "F" or "FE" just add "S" to make it plural.  

Examples:   Roof = Roofs
                    Belief = Beliefs
                    Chef = Chefs
